Targeting the fastest growing travel market worldwide, Cebu Pacific (CEB) has teamed up with the Philippines’ Department of Tourism (DOT) to promote the country in China.
Taking time out from its aviation duties to promote the carrier’s regular flights to Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, CEB has made and planned future appearances at calendar events within China to showcase the fun, adventurous and softer sides of the Philippines.
Philippine Tourism Attache to Shanghai Gerard Panga said CEB’s assistance in promoting the region has helped spread its marketing efforts “immensely”.
“More and more Chinese travelers are heading to the Philippines, the nearest tropical island destination to China, with multiple options for shopping, sightseeing, cultural, cosmopolitan or beach holidays in our archipelago of more than 7,000 islands,” Mr Panga said.
As part of its campaign in China, CEB attended the Davao Cultural Festival in Beijing as the official airline and it showcased the Filipino culture at the Shanghai World Travel Fair earlier this year.
During the first quarter the carrier carried over 258,368 passengers between Greater China and the Philippines, more than 23 percent over the same period last year.
CEB vice president for marketing and distribution Candice Iyog contributed the growth to the carrier’s low fares and extensive route network.
“Destinations such as Cebu, Boracay (Caticlan) and Palawan (Puerto Princesa) become more accessible with our brand new aircraft fleet,” Ms Iyog said.
Earlier this month the carrier celebrated as it flew its 50 millionth passenger from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Beijing, and welcomed a 19 percent year on year growth this year, carrying over 12 million passengers.
